Fasting For Weight Loss – Is This Method Safe and Effective?

Basically, the idea behind fasting is to decrease food consumption to induce weight loss. People associate weight gain with extreme food consumption; fasting is their way to rapidly lose weight. They think that by starving themselves they would gain faster results; eventually leading to weight loss. But the question remains as to whether fasting for weight loss is an effective and safe method or not.
Obese people do not have control over their appetite which results to obesity. The idea of fasting is not mainly to lose weight but to gain control of one’s appetite. Learning to control the desire towards food could lead to weight loss.
You limit your food intake during fasting. When you don’t consume enough food, your body will burn fat instead. As you continue, the metabolism starts to slow down. The body slows it down as a response for food restriction so that you would live longer without food, called as survival mechanism. On the brighter side, it cleanses the digestive system and helps restore and rejuvenates the body.
Water makes up most of the solid foods you eat. By fasting, you rapidly lose weight due to the fact that large percentage of weight loss comes from water but it is temporary since permanent fat loss is not initiated. Generally, an effective weight loss should enable the body to permanently and effectively burn fat.
Fasting is undoubtedly not a safe and effective way of losing weight since it may pose health hazards. It may show dramatic weight loss to trick you to think it is effective but the truth is, the loss is merely a result of water loss and fat is quickly restored once you eat.
People should learn not to do things the easy way. There are more effective and safer ways of losing weight, the most common and conventional – diet and exercise. Being patient and motivated will help you to achieve your weight loss goals. Fasting may be the easy way for some but it does not guarantee a long term and effective result.
