Are Fast Weight Loss Diets Dangerous?
Article by Nick Springs
Fast weight loss diets – do they really work? They actually do, but there are many that don’t. The key is to understand what to look for in fast weight loss diets. You’ve got to be an informed consumer to make sure it will give you the desired results. This article is going to look at the myths and misconceptions that surround weight loss, and give you some key facts that you should know when shopping for a dieting plan.
Most of the dieting information you have read has no scientific evidence to support it. Common examples are: that you need to eat six meals a day to keep your metabolism high, if you skip a meal your body will go into ‘starvation mode’ and store fat, you shouldn’t skip breakfast because it is the most important meal of the day. These are common statements that you will see repeatedly. There is no evidence to support any of these claims, in fact I would go so far to say that they are flat out wrong. So what is a correct fast weight loss diet?
The whole idea to lose weight is to cut down calories. If you are using more than you are taking in, you’ll see the pounds come off. Some ways to do this include eating lighter meals, opting for low-fat alternatives to what you usually work, and counting your calories. These methods will all show some results, but they won’t work completely because you’re still taking in calories. It’s difficult for anyone to continue practicing these eating habits over time when you see few results.
Most fat weight loss diets look at reducing what you eat to lower calorie intake, but here’s a wild idea – why not try taking in no calories at all. The concept is called intermittent fasting. It means planning to skip meals. This is a sure-fire way to cut calories. When you allow yourself to eat, there is no limit to what you can enjoy. Eat whatever you like to eat, and this even includes fried foods, treats and fatty foods. Studies have shown that skipping a meal through intermittent fasting just twice a week cuts your intake of calories by about a fifth, and that is a lot of calories.
Fasting periods should last for 18-24 hours at a stretch. This is the most recommended way to get results with your fasting. It may sound brutal, but consider this – It’s much more painful to hold back and stop yourself from enjoying the things you love at every meal than it is to go without food at all for a while, knowing that once those hours are over, you can eat what you want. During this period, your body begins naturally burning fat, and it requires no effort on your part. Without any exercise at all, you’ll see the fat come off. It has other health benefits as well.
Among all fast weight loss diets, intermittent fasting is the surest way to get results. It may sound like an extreme approach to burning fat, but it’s actually one that is sustainable with anyone’s lifestyle. When you’re not fasting, you don’t need to make any changes.
